Endemic to Great Guana Cay, in the northern end of the Exuma Islands.

  • NOTES:  This is one of the coarsely ribbed Cerion in the subgenus Umbonis monographed in 1952 by Clench & Aguayo. The Scalarinum Species Complex (Umbonis) in the Genus Cerion. Occ. Pap. Moll., Harvard Univ., 1: 413-440, 7 pls.

An island-endemic form from the southern Exumas.

  • NOTES:  Pilsbry and Vanatta were unsure about the type locality for this species, yet the form was distinct enough when comparing it with museum material. It is now known that the southern Exumas seems to be its habitat, where these shells are from.

Strongly ribbed morph from Andros Island.

  • NOTES:  C. glans is the most widely distributed Cerion species. Its center of radiation is New Providence Island, but has been reported from the adjacent islands. C. glans is one of the most variable of the Family and has the most synonyms of all Cerion species.

Found only at the extreme northern hook of Eleuthera Island.

  • DESCRIPTION:Strong white ribs on dark brown background color.
  • NOTES:  This species has been sold with the name clappii Maynard, 1894. C. clappii is a smaller species from an adjacent location at the north end of Eleuthera. Unlike C. hyattii, C. clappii is an unmistakeable species that is smooth to finely ribbed with broad dark brown and white axial bands.

One of the coarsely sculptured species in the subgenus Umbonis.

  • NOTES:  These specimens are from an interesting lot. C. stevensoni was classically recorded as an endemic species to Long Island in the southern Bahamas. These specimens are from Staniel Cay, Exumas. So this population was either purposely introduced to Staniel Cay, or represents a natural range extension for the species.
