    Ovulinae back to menu
    Dentiovula dorsuosa (Hinds, 1844) - Indonesia, 13-14mm - Also known from Japan, Philippines, and Malaysia. The type locality is Straits of Malacca. Dentiovula horai Cardin, 1994 - Philippines, 17mm - Differentiated from similar species by the strongly shouldered dorsum. Dentiovula takeoi Azuma & Cate, 1973 - Philippines, 14mm - Also recorded from Japan. Animals with red shells live on similarly colored gorgonians.
    Primovula beckeri Sowerby III, 1900 - Mozambique, 14mm - Also recorded from South Africa. The color varies from white to red.

    Phenacovolva (Pellasimnia) gracilis (A.Adams & Reeve, 1848) [+ weaveri Cate, 1973] Indonesia, 20mm - Ovulid specialists have differing opinions as to whether P. weaveri is a valid species, or synonymous with P. gracilis. Phenacovolva (Turbovula) lindae Petuch, 1987 - Colombia, 41mm - . Prosimnia piriei Petuch, 1973 - Indonesia, 16-19mm - Found scuba diving. The species was named too late to be included in Cate's Ovulidae monograph. It is illustrated in T. C. Lan's Rare Shells of Taiwan (plate 39).
    Simnia cf. nicaeensis Risso, 1826 - Italy, 11mm - Some Ovulid specialists consider this to be Simnia aperta Sowerby, 1848.
